The Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities will host a year-long interdisciplinary Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Sawyer Seminar on the theme "The Age of Emancipation: Black Freedom in the Atlantic World" during the 2012/2013 academic year. The project will coincide with the sesquicentennial of the U.S. Emancipation Proclamation (January 1, 1863).
