AMS - The Nicholas P. Fofonoff Award

The Nicholas P. Fofonoff Award is to be given to an individual in recognition of research achievement in the field of physical oceanography. All aspects of physical oceanography are eligible, including instrument development as well as observational, theoretical, and modeling studies. The award is to be given to young, promising physical oceanographers who have recently shown outstanding ability and are under 40 years of age when nominated. The award is offered on an annual basis.
